The Ohio State Buckeyes are looking for a true run-swallowing, center-pancaking nose tackle since 4-star Sierra Canyon defensive lineman Kasi Currie committed to the Texas Longhorns earlier in mid-June. A to Z Sports' Brandon Little believes 4-star Ramsay (AL) DL Karlos May could be the guy.
Per Little, in a piece titled "Predicting Ohio State football’s next couple of commitments following the addition of five-star DL Marcus Fakatou," written after Fakatou committed on Monday and didn't follow his Sierra Canyon teammate Currie's footsteps, "May confirmed to A to Z Sports that he will be announcing his commitment on July 18. The Alabama defensive lineman is also considering Georgia and Auburn, but the Buckeyes stand in a great spot following his June 19 official visit to Columbus. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive lineman would be a true interior addition for the Buckeyes, and one they need after missing out on Kasi Currie to Texas."
"Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson has built a strong relationship here, and the Buckeyes look to be the team to beat," Little added.
It's notable that the Auburn Tigers are also after May. Alex Golesh has been on a recruiting tear all June and has a strong recruiter in Vontrell King-Williams on May's trail. Still, Little's testimony is important. Plus, if OSU wants a recruit over Auburn, it has the means to financially make it happen. May has a strong home-state pull in Alabama, though, where "It Just Means More" to wear the orange and blue.
Right now, May's crystal ball is coming up Buckeyes. Larry Johnson is historically hot and has produced plenty of proof of concept to keep the Tigers at bay for May.
Georgia is in the mix for Karlos May too
The Georgia Bulldogs, who have made it a habit to win big recruiting battles in their region under Kirby Smart, even in the NIL era, cannot be discounted here for May. There have been some interesting remarks from May that indicate there's a good chance he could choose UGA.
“After that meeting, I just kind of sat down for a minute and said‚ ‘I knew Georgia was the place.’ It was the place. You can see why they win games. Just because coach Scott has developed a lot of people," May said in early June.
“I almost wanted to commit on the spot, actually. But I changed my mind. I said I was going to do what I said I would. Go through all my visits. Things like that. But I definitely felt that way. ... Then the next morning, when I woke up, I said, 'This is the place to be'. Honestly, I almost did it, but I had to think about it. I had to take all the rest of my visits. It might- you don’t know; it might have been just an emotional thing. Being off emotions or the way I felt about a school, but nah, I still think about Georgia like that. Even a day after I left my visit.”
Rivals has May heading to Ohio State, but 247Sports doesn't have a prediction yet. We'll see what happens here, but it's a three-team race until the finish line.
