Unfortunately for Oregon Ducks fans, Dan Lanning jumping in a pool to celebrate a commitment is looking worse by the minute. Things hit rock bottom on Tuesday, as 5-star EDGE Richard Wesley decommitted from the Eugene side. Oh, and he's also a top target for Ohio State.
It's been a busy week for Wesley, as he locked in his official visit to Columbus for Aug. 30. That of course is the same day Ohio State will be hosting Texas for the biggest and best game of the opening weekend. Can you imagine if Ryan Day and Co. are able to pull off a flip here?
5-star EDGE Richard Wesley will visit Ohio State on Aug. 30 for the Texas game
Earlier this month, Lanning made a ton of headlines during Wesley's commitment video that went viral. Lanning was seen throwing off his shirt and jumping into a pool with Wesley to celebrate the monster recruiting win for the Ducks.
Things sure have changed since then, with Wesley deciding he needs more time to fully lock down his process. In addition to Ohio State, he's also set to take an official visit to Texas, Texas A&M and Oregon. Ohio State, for now, will be getting the last OV from the elite prospect.
According to the 247Sports Composite, the 6-5, 250-pounder is ranked the No. 2 EDGE in the country, No. 3 prospect from California and No. 14 player nationally for the 2026 class. He has picked up 24 offers this cycle as well.
For a little while, it seemed like he was all set to be playing his college ball in the Pacific Northwest, but that's no longer the case. Oregon could end up signing him after all down the road, but Ohio State is no question making a move on him and it's now in better shape overall. Should the Buckeyes take down the Longhorns in Week 1 in front of a packed house at The Shoe, it could help send things over the top for Day as well.
