Ohio State Buckeyes 2027 receiver commit Jamier Brown, a two-sport Big Walnut transfer who originally went to Wayne High School in Hubert Heights, is now a three-time state champion track runner this year in the 100, 200, and 4x100 relay. Brown earned the honors on Sunday, effectively retiring from track on top.

This fall, Brown will focus on football in Region 7 of the OHSAA's Division II. Then, in the winter, he'll be an early enrollee at the Ohio State University. As Cleveland.com's Jonathan X. Simmons relayed, it's all football from here on out.

"Even with his future already mapped out — including plans to graduate early and enroll at Ohio State after the fall semester — Brown made it clear he wasn’t going to skip his final track season. Instead, he embraced one last chance to compete, fully aware this would likely be his last run at a state title," Simmons wrote.

"If this was indeed his final appearance on the state stage, Brown left little doubt about his legacy. ... If this was indeed his final appearance on the state stage, Brown left little doubt about his legacy."

Brown said after his win, “I just love to compete ... I mean, honestly, I wouldn’t have nothing else to do if I didn’t run track. … I know I had another chance to win state, so why not?” Before any Buckeye fans jump at the fact he said he'd have nothing else to do if not run track, remember, this is just a high school kid in his teens. No need to run him into the ground now before his senior season begins.

Brown's short-term tenure on the Golden Eagles will be his most important yet in high school after he fought for NIL in Ohio for high school athletes. He'll be expected to put up big numbers, jumping from the Greater Western Ohio Conference to the Ohio Capital Conference.

Jamier Brown stuck with Ohio State despite Brian Hartline's exit

Brown could've easily decommitted from the program after Brian Hartline left for the USF Bulls' head coaching job, as Kayden Dixon-Wyatt did. Like Chris Henry Jr., though, Brown is sticking with OSU. It makes you wonder how much Hartline was a deciding factor, as much as the Buckeyes' brand.

Regardless, Brown is joining the program to presumably play for Arthur Smith and, barring an 0-12 season this fall in Cbus, Ryan Day as his head coach. He's one of 10 blue-chip commits, though Huntington Beach quarterback Brady Edmunds is almost certainly going to de-commit any day now, with the UCLA Bruins having just hosted him in Westwood.

Brown will likely play with Tavien St. Clair next year, assuming Julian Sayin plays out the 2026 season and ends up in the 2027 NFL draft. Before that, he'll look to build on a 2025 season in which he had 73 catches, 10 of them for a touchdown, 1,009 receiving yards, and 1,715 all-purpose yards. It's a tough act to follow, but OSU is expecting his rise to continue all the way until he's wearing Scarlet and Gray.
