The Ohio State football program continues to prep for official recruiting visits. Last weekend was one of the most important recruiting weekends of the year. While the Ohio State Buckeyes didn't get any commits from that weekend, they feel good about how that weekend went.
As of right now, the Buckeyes have 13 commits for the 2027 recruiting class. One of those recruits is quarterback Brady Edmunds. He has been pledged to Ohio State since December of 2024, so he's been locked in for quite a while. Yet, things look like they are changing.
Ryan Day has been looking around at other quarterback recruits, seeming to signal a loss of faith in Edmunds. He is trying to flip Trae Taylor from Nebraska. Now, it looks like Edmunds is starting to be open to other options, as he is now taking a visit to a Big Ten foe.
Ohio State recruit Brady Edmunds to take an official visit UCLA
Edmunds is now visiting UCLA this weekend, according to Rivals. This comes right before the Buckeyes will be hosting Edmunds on an official visit June 17-21. Edmunds hasn't visited another school since he committed to Ohio State a year and a half ago.
The fact that he has scheduled an official visit with another school after not thinking about it for so long is cause for concern. At the same time, it's hard to blame Edmunds for looking at his other options. Day has not given him the impression that he wants Edmunds to be the only QB in this class.
It would certainly hurt if the Buckeyes lost Edmunds to another Big Ten team. If he were to go outside the conference, it wouldn't be as bad. It's worth noting that Edmunds is still committed at this point, and Ohio State will get a visit with him after he sees what the Bruins have to offer.
Ohio State will have to scramble if Brady Edmunds de-commits
If Edmunds does decide to de-commit, the Buckeyes would be in scramble mode. Day likes to have at least one quarterback in every recruiting class. Losing Edmunds would force Ohio State to find another QB to offer. Of course, if they don't like their options, they could just try to mend fences with him.
It seems highly unlikely that Day would let Edmunds go to another program if he didn't have another quarterback lined up to take his spot in the recruiting class. He either has to be working on flipping one right now, or he will decide that Edmunds is actually the right QB to bring in at this time.
If all else fails, Day can get a quarterback or two in the Transfer Portal at the end of the season. Next year, Julian Sayin will be moving on to the NFL if he has a strong year. That would put Tavien St. Clair in line to start. Behind him, they don't really have anyone waiting in the wings, which could be an issue.
