The countdown to Week 1 for Ohio State and Ryan Day keeps shrinking. Yes, there's loads of hype surrounding Julian Sayin in what could end up being a Heisman year for him. With that, though, let's not forget even for one second that Jeremiah Smith is without question the best wide receiver in the country, and that he'll be in the Heisman hunt too.
5-star Ohio State recruiting target blows away coaches with camp workout
Entering a highly-anticipated third season in Columbus, Smith is once again on his grind this offseason making sure he'll be at his best for when Week 1 rolls around. Need further proof of that? This week, Smith shared a new workout photo of him in Columbus and it's out of this world. Good luck to any defenders out there trying to slow him down:

Jeremiah Smith looks noticeably bigger in new workout photo
Just look at the size of his arms and shoulders. Wow! The youngster looks NFL ready, but he's still got his junior season to go through before he's eligible to enter the NFL Draft. Let's be real here, though: had Smith entered this past April, or even last April for that matter, he would have been a lock to be a Top 5 pick.
Hey, if I was a general manager and I had the No. 1 overall pick for next season, going with Smith first overall would be a no-brainer. However, we've got to see what he ends up doing this season to determine whether or not he'll be in the first-pick conversation. Plenty of people are assuming that honor will go to Arch Manning.
Regardless of that, no one can argue with the fact that Smith is easily one of the best players in all of college football, and he's going to be playing with a chip on his shoulder next season. The main reason for that is he's still likely pretty dang ticked off over how the 2025 campaign went.
Ohio State appeared to be in a great position to repeat as the national champs, but a stunning loss to Miami was posted in the College Football Playoff. With the history between Miami and Smith, particularly with the poaching efforts, it had to make things hurt a little bit worse for the standout receiver.
That's all in the past now, and Smith is clearly on his grind to make sure he silences all of his haters once the fall arrives. Ohio State is always going to have a target on its back, especially with so many key returners coming back. Add in the fact that 5-star wideout Chris Henry Jr. is getting ready for his freshman year, and it's going to make the offense even more lethal for 2026.
Things in the aerial attack will begin with Smith, however, as he and Sayin have built incredible chemistry with one another. With Smith looking so much bigger too, it's only going to make him harder to bring down/contain. That's fantastic news for Sayin and Day, but a terrifying thought for the rest of the country.
