2. LSU Tigers

All week long I heard talk of LSU moving to No. 1 if they defeated Alabama. Well, they did, but I didn’t move them up.

In their victory, the Tigers thoroughly dominated the Tide, but in doing so gave up 41 points and couldn’t stop the Alabama offense in the second half.

Their defense concerns me as it has been virtually masked by such an explosive offense. I don’t know how much I can trust the LSU defense for a full sixty minutes to win a game if needed. It may hurt them in the CFP, it may not. But defense always has a way of being needed especially on the biggest stage.

Quarterback Joe Burrow separates himself from the pack for the Heisman Trophy, some of that due to the unavailability of Ohio State defensive end Chase Young. But it’s largely attributed to his consistent elite level of play throughout the season on the biggest stages.

Burrow has performed at an extremely high level in all four of LSU’s top-10 matchups and that’s exactly what you want to see in a Heisman winner. He’s had a handful of Heisman moments, but the fourth down QB draw that went 18 yards to ice the game against Alabama certainly stands out.

Coach O and his LSU Tigers are the real deal. I don’t see how they miss the CFP even with a loss in the SEC Championship Game.
