No. 6 Santonio Holmes

Another Buckeye receiver who might have had a better NFL career than his one in Columbus was Santonio Holmes. He will be most remembered for his Superbowl MVP with the Steelers in 2009.

But like Michael Thomas, that shouldn’t diminish what he accomplished in the Scarlet and Gray. In three seasons with the Buckeyes, Holmes contributed heavily in each of them

As a redshirt freshman, Holmes caught 32 passes for 549 yards and 7 touchdowns. The production ramped up as a Sophomore as Holmes would catch 55 passes for 769 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2004.

Finally, Holmes would record his best season in 2005 as a redshirt junior where he caught 53 passes for 977 yards and 11 touchdowns. The TD total led the Big Ten in 2005.

For those two outstanding seasons, Holmes would be picked for the All-Big Ten Second-Team in 2004 and for the All-Big Ten First-Team in 2005. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, Holmes decided to leave campus early but that didn’t stop him from ranking highly in the record books for Buckeye receivers.

Holmes ranks 8th in career receptions with 140, 6th in career receiving yards with 2,295 and 4th in career receiving touchdowns with 25. He also ranks 7th for yards in a season and is tied for 5th in receiving touchdowns in a single season.

Holmes also recorded one of the best single-game performances in 2004 where he put up 224 receiving yards against Marshall.

Like everyone else on this list, Santonio Holmes deserves all of the praise he can get for his three years in a Buckeye uniform.
