Ohio State Football: Top 10 Buckeye wide receivers of all time
No. 7 Michael Thomas
For as good as Michael Thomas was as a Buckeye, he has been even better in New Orleans at the NFL level.
That isn’t a dig at his college career, that’s a compliment about the success he has had on Sundays.
His time as a Buckeye from 2012-2015 was spectacular and while you aren’t going to find him on many all-time receiving lists because he didn’t play much in 2012 and was redshirted in 2013.
However, his importance to the 2014 and 2015 teams cannot be overstated.
Thomas had 54 catches for 799 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2014 and 56 catches for 781 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2015. In basically two years, Thomas landed himself at 10th in Buckeye history in career receiving touchdowns with 18.
For his career, Thomas had 113 catches for 1,602 yards. His only stats outside of his final two years were 3 catches for 22 yards during his freshman season
His stats in both of those seasons are almost identical showing the consistency that Thomas brought to the field day in and day out. A consistency that helped the Buckeyes defeat both Alabama and Oregon en route to a National Title in 2014 and made Thomas an All-Big Ten Third-Team selection in 2015.
His catch in the College Football Playoff against Alabama on the reverse from Evan Spencer will live on as one of the greatest in Buckeye history.
Thomas without a doubt had two of the best seasons by a receiver in Buckeye history and deserves to be on this list.
