The Ohio State football team has struggled to get quality home night games during the Big Ten portion of the schedule over the last few years. Since the new TV contracts came into effect, the Buckeyes have not been given the opportunity to play quality home games at night.
FOX usually gobbles up as many Buckeye games as possible. Most of the time, they put those games at noon. The Buckeyes are a favorite to put on Big Noon Kickoff. CBS is locked in for games at 3:30, while NBC is the network that broadcasts the night Big Ten games most often.
With the TV contracts being structured that way, Ohio State is unlikely to see a quality opponent for a night home game this year. That means that the unveiling of their new black alternate uniforms will be wasted on some bad opponent this season, which is disappointing.
New Ohio State alternate uniforms likely to be wasted this season
It's highly unlikely that the Ohio State Buckeyes will take on Oregon for a home night game. That would be the game that fans would like to see played at night the most. Instead, Ohio State is likely going to use those black uniforms on a much worse opponent.
Instead of wearing them against the Ducks, it seems likely that Ohio State will wear the black uniforms against Maryland or Northwestern. Neither of those games really brings the juice. If that's the case, why even create those uniforms this season?
It seems that bringing back the gray sleeves on the normal uniforms would have been nicer to have instead of these black ones that won't really get a shot to shine the way they should. Ohio State missed a golden opportunity to appease the fan base, although there are rumors that they still might.
The Buckeyes could still unveil updated uniforms with the gray sleeves for both the normal home and away uniforms. That would be nice to see.
