Are the Buckeyes going to pull this off?

Seemingly out of nowhere, major news dropped out in the recruiting world that Ryan Day and Ohio State are making a move to try and flip 4-star quarterback Trae Taylor, who is currently Nebraska-bound. Yup, the update sure caught a lot of people off guard, especially with Brady Edmunds already Columbus-bound.

Ohio State football making a push to flip a 4-star Nebraska commit

From the moment Taylor committed to Nebraska, he has voiced several times that he's 100 percent locked in with the Huskers, even helping Matt Rhule recruit other targets to Lincoln. Despite that, when Ohio State calls, anyone is going to listen and On3's Steve Wiltfong has hinted that the wheels are indeed in motion here:

Ohio State is giving Nebraska QB commit Trae Taylor a serious look

"Ohio State is in the mix for Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor," Wiltfong said, citing the scoop too from Allen Trieu. "There's been dialogue, conversations about what it would look like on the field, from an NIL perspective, the whole nine. So, Trae Taylor is a name on the board for Ohio State as they look towards who their potential signal-caller could be alongside Brady Edmunds in this 2027 class."

What's new here from Wiltfong is that per his sources, conversations are being had from an NIL standpoint, which tells us Ohio State's interest is high and Taylor could be willing to listen. Again, he has passionately said he's all-in with Nebraska and that nothing is going to change his mind there.

With that said, anything can happen when it comes to recruiting and we know what the Ohio State brand alone means to top targets. If Day aggressively pursues Taylor and makes him feel like a wanted man, could it be enough for him to change his mind and flip from one Big Ten team to the other?

That's on the table right now and until Taylor makes some sort of a definitive statement that he's thankful for the Ohio State interest, but that he's not going to take a visit there or something, then the buzz about him potentially changing his mind is going to continue.

Edmunds, a California product, has been committed to the Buckeyes since January 2024, but UCLA is showing him a ton of interest of late. Could this be a reason why Ohio State is looking to make moves with a different QB? Potentially, but this recent push for Taylor has people talking and for good reason. Time for Rhule to worry? Maybe.
