The Ohio State football program usually only takes one quarterback in a recruiting class. Ryan Day likes to keep it that way so that he has a signal-caller for each class. For the 2027 recruiting class, the Buckeyes have had Brady Edmunds committed to them for quite a while.
Despite already having Edmunds for this class, that hasn't stopped the Ohio State Buckeyes from looking at bringing in other gunslingers. Ryan Day has not stopped pursuing other quarterbacks in this class. They weren't able to land Wonderful Monds IV, as he chose Notre Dame instead.
Now, the Buckeyes have turned their attention elsewhere. In fact, reports are that Ohio State has actually started making a late push for a quarterback who has already committed to another Big Ten program. It wouldn't be the first time Day has flipped a recruit.
Ohio State football zeroing in on Trae Taylor as another QB in the 2027 class
According to Allen Trieu of Rivals, the Buckeyes are making a push for Trae Taylor. Taylor is a four-star quarterback from Omaha, Nebraska. In fact, he has been committed to the Cornhuskers since May of last year. Apparently, the Buckeyes are trying to steal Taylor from his hometown team.
Ohio State must want more depth at the quarterback spot heading into next year. With Julian Sayin likely leaving after this season, Ohio State will be thin at the quarterback spot. Justyn Martin will be gone, as well. That really just leaves Tavien St. Clair and Edmunds in the room at the moment.
Of course, Day could go into the Transfer Portal to try to bring in some insurance, as well. In fact, it would be surprising if Day didn't try to bring in an older quarterback in the portal next season. He needs to have a veteran in the quarterback room who can help the younger guys.
Taylor could make more NIL money if he decided to flip his commitment to Ohio State. That would likely be the driving motivation for him to change his mind. There is no guarantee that Ohio State will be able to pry Taylor away from the Cornhuskers, though.
