Ohio State has the biggest game of the Big Ten portion of their schedule this weekend. They are taking on the Hoosiers in Bloomington, meaning the last two national champs are meeting up. It will be the biggest home game in the history of Indiana football, and the Buckeyes are well aware of that.

Ryan Day will need all of his explosive players seeing the field to win this game. Legend Bey is arguably one of the most explosive players the team has. He finally saw the field against Maryland after not playing in the previous two games. Day gave a positive update regarding his status with the team.

Ryan Day gives encouraging note on Ohio State RB Legend Bey

While speaking to the media, Day gave an encouraging note on Bey moving forward as they prepare for the big-time clash with the Hoosiers.

"He's taken some steps in the right direction for sure. He's built a little momentum, so we'd like to have another good week with him."

Day didn't give a lot of information, but it was clear that Bey had earned some trust back from the coaching staff. While playing against the Terps, Bey had four carries for 13 yards in some mop-up duty. While it wasn't his best game, at least he was on the field.

It was a little surprising that Bey even got into the game after some troubling stuff came out about some off-the-field incidents. Still. It looks like Bey is getting past those problems and is starting to at least get snaps, which is what he needs as a true freshman to develop.

Ohio State has been in search of some guys who can create explosive plays besides Jeremiah Smith. Smith is clearly the best player in the country, so the offense still revolves around him. That won't change, but getting Bey more involved could help later on this season.

Don't expect Legend Bey to have a big impact against Indiana

While it's good that things are moving in the right direction, it's highly unlikely that Bey will make a major impact in the game against the Hoosiers. He just hasn't had the snaps to truly develop into a consistent force. It's hard for the coaches to trust him in a top-five matchup with that being the case.

Bo Jackson finally rushing for over 100 yards hurts the chances that Bey will get more meaningful snaps. Ohio State had failed to have a back reach the century mark during any game this season. If he is someone the Buckeyes can rely on moving forward, that's good news in the running game.

If Ohio State fails to generate too many explosive plays, the Buckeyes could always decide to change some things and get Bey out there on the field. He is a wildcard that Day could decide to pull if the game plan isn't going the way that it should.

Bey may have finally found a way to get on the field, but he may have missed his chance at climbing the depth chart. He might be ahead of Isaiah West, though, after he had a horrible missed blitz pickup that resulted in a pick-six.
