The Ohio State football program is trying to finish strong with its 2027 recruiting class. It has been a little while since they have landed a recruit in that class. The end of June had them land five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou, which was a fantastic get.
However, the Buckeyes have had a couple of other five-star recruits locked in for quite a while. D.J. Jacobs is someone they have had committed to the program since last year. He is the other five-star player that Larry Johnson has landed for this class, which shows how strong a recruiter he still is.
Receiver Jamier Brown is the other one. Brown has been locked in since November of 2024. He has also been rated as a five-star recruit since that time, as well. However, he just received an insane drop in the recruiting rankings from Rivals, which moved him down to a four-star recruit.
Ohio State recruit Jamier Brown gets a crazy drop in recruiting rankings
Rivals recently updated their rankings of five-star recruits. Brown was dropped from those rankings. What's worse is they now have him ranked as the 13th-best receiver recruit in the country. Meanwhile, 247Sports and ESPN both have him listed as a five-star recruit.
Why Rivals decided to drop Brown so far in the rankings is unclear. It seems to be a ridiculous drop, considering the composite still has him as a five-star kid. He hasn't played any more games in recent games to make a drop like that happen, so they must not like what he has done in camps.
Brown is one of the foundational pieces of the 2027 recruiting class for the Buckeyes. He would be yet another elite receiver that they have added in the last few years. While he committed when Brian Hartline was the receivers coach when he committed, this would be a big win for Cortez Hankton.
The Buckeyes are not done adding elite talent to the 2027 recruiting class
Ohio State is not done adding talent to this class. They are hoping to add two more five-star recruits in this class. David Gabriel Georges is the one they want the most. The five-star running back recruit is someone the Buckeyes have been chasing for the last two seasons.
Monshun Sales is the other five-star recruit they are hoping to land. He is rated as the best receiver in the class, and he will be committing on Friday. Ohio State is fighting the Hoosiers for his recruitment. It seems that the decision is coming down to the wire, and neither school knows what will happen.
Ryan Day and his coaching staff are still hoping to sign several more four and five-star recruits to the roster by the time December rolls around. That is when these recruits can actually sign with the Buckeyes. Until then, Ohio State had to fight with other schools to keep them committed.
Brown will likely be back in the five-star ranks for Rivals once they drop their final rankings, too.
