The Ohio State football program has been trying to get in the good graces of David Gabriel Georges for a couple of years now. They have made it no secret that Gabriel Georges is one of their top recruiting targets in the 2027 class. In fact, he is clearly their most important target.
The Buckeyes have used a lot of time and resources on his recruitment. If he doesn't decide to play in Columbus next season, the Ohio State Buckeyes don't really have a backup plan. They are kind of stuck because they have a lot of eggs in this one basket. Still, they feel good about landing him.
DGG is choosing between Ohio State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss. He will announce his collegiate choice on July 22. However, the latest update from him will make Buckeye fans uneasy, considering the confidence that the coaching staff has shown about signing him.
Ohio State recruiting target David Gabriel Georges claims he hasn't made a choice
While talking to On3, Gabriel Georges claims that he still hasn't chosen a school, even though his decision date is just a couple of weeks away.
"It’s hard. You feel this way, like you know, and then it’s sort of 50-50. People will say the 22nd of July is far off, but honestly for me, it’s pretty close."
That can't give Buckeye fans a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. Ohio State will not match the ludicrous amount of NIL that the Volunteers are offering him. They believe that they have enough besides money to entice him to want to be in Columbus for the next three to four years.
Yet, this quote should make them feel uneasy. If he hasn't decided where he is going yet, that gives Tennessee more of a chance to sweeten the pot with more funds. Ohio State has been steadfast in its NIL approach, and it has worked so far this year. They won't chance that, even for DGG.
Ohio State still feels confident that David Gabriel Georges will be a Buckeye
When it's all said and done, the Buckeyes still feel confident that they can land Gabriel Georges. Ohio State has a long history of producing great running backs, even under Ryan Day. TreVeyon Henderson, Quinshon Judkins, and J.K. Dobbins are all great examples of that.
With Arthur Smith as the new offensive coordinator, running the ball is going to be even more important in Ohio State's offense moving forward. Gabriel Georges would have a massive opportunity in front of him to accumulate a lot of yards, as well as show NFL teams he's a beast.
Ultimately, DGG wants to get to the NFL. Picking a school that is essentially an NFL factory would give him the best chance to realize that dream and make a lot of money once he gets there. That's what Ohio State can offer him, and that is the crux of their pitch. Oh, and he can win a national championship while he's in Columbus, too.
