Ohio State set to meet another great QB recruit as they continue to shop around

The Ohio State football program has had Brady Edmunds committed to them for quite a while. Edmunds is a member of the 2027 recruiting class, and he committed to the Buckeyes back in December of 2024. Since that commitment, it seemed like the Buckeyes had their 2027 QB locked up.

Over the last few weeks, that doesn't seem to be the case. In fact, the Ohio State Buckeyes have already met with a few other quarterbacks. It seems that Day might be souring on what Edmunds could possibly give the Buckeyes. He continues to shop around for other options.

Day has already met with Nebraska commit Trae Taylor. Now, it looks like Day is trying to meet with another quarterback recruit. This time, Ohio State is going to meet with a different quarterback recruit, who isn't as highly rated as either Edmunds or Taylor.

Ohio State wants to meet with another quarterback recruit

According to Rivals, Day wants to meet with three-star quarterback recruit Dane Weber. Weber is from the state of California and is rated as a high three-star recruit. It's curious that the Buckeyes would want to bring Weber into the fold as their 2027 QB recruit.

Weber stands at six feet and 220 pounds, so he is on the shorter side for a quarterback. Perhaps Day has changed his opinion on how good a quarterback could be after the success that Julian Sayin had last year. Still, Weber has not been a QB that the Buckeyes have eyed in this cycle.

If they do end up pursuing Weber, that could spell the end for Edmunds' commitment with them going after yet another quarterback. At this point, it seems pretty clear that Day doesn't want Edmunds in the class. The only other explanation is that he wants extra depth at that spot after possibly losing two quarterbacks next year.

Ohio State runs the risk of losing the commitment of a 2027 quarterback

If Ohio State continues to look around and recruit other quarterbacks, they run the risk of having Edmunds de-commit. That would be a tough blow, as Edmunds was an Elite 11 Finalist this year. It's clear that he is a good talent, and someone Ohio State could develop into an eventual starter.

After Sayin leaves, Tavien St. Clair is the presumed starter. After how he played in the Spring Game, that seems like a good decision. He will have all of this year to get backup reps in order to work towards that starting job, whether it comes in 2027 or 2028.

Edmunds would likely have to wait behind St. Clair to have a shot at starting, although he would be afforded the opportunity to beat him out for the job in camp. If Sayin leaves after this year, the job would almost certainly go to St. Clair. Day has never had a true freshman start at quarterback.

Perhaps Day is looking for a quarterback who is more willing to sit for a couple of years.
