For the last few months, Ohio State quarterback commit Brady Edmunds has been hanging in the wind. After Ryan Day indicated some interest in other quarterbacks, Edmunds was unsure if he was wanted enough in Columbus. Because of that, he took a visit to UCLA to see if he should go there instead.
Edmunds visited the Buckeyes back in June. That was the last official visit he took. He made it clear that he was still undecided about what he was going to do. Now he has officially made his decision, and he has decided to lock in his commitment with the Buckeyes.
Brady Edmunds locks in commitment to the Ohio State football program
Edmunds officially has decided to stick with Ohio State and has shut down his commitment. This ends a months-long saga of Ryan Day wondering whether or not he was going to keep his commitment to the program. Now, Day officially has his 2027 quarterback.

As of right now, Edmunds is a four-star quarterback. When he committed back in 2024, he was a five-star prospect. His ranking has fallen, which might be part of the reason why Day looked around for some other options at that spot. Yet, Edmunds has decided to lock in with the Buckeyes.
It's unlikely that Edmunds will have a chance to start in the next few years. Day has never had a true freshman start at quarterback for him. Julian Sayin might be back next year if he doesn't light it up this year. If he doesn't return, it will likely be Tavien St. Clair who wins the job.
That means Edmunds is going to sit on the bench for at least the first couple of years that he plays in Columbus. That might not be a bad thing, as he needs some development. Once St. Clair leaves, Edmunds then has a shot to win the starting job with whoever else is on the roster.
Brady Edmunds could have stiff competition to start at some point at Ohio State
Even if all of that comes to fruition, Edmunds might still have some issues finding a time to start. He could have some competition from a 2028 quarterback. The Buckeyes are hot and heavy on Christopher Vargas, who is a five-star recruit in that class.
No recruit picks Ohio State and thinks it will be easy to win a starting job. Competition is part of the deal at every single position, and the elite recruits who pick the Buckeyes know that going into it. Edmunds is no different, so he has decided to embrace that competition.
Ohio State is going to be tough to beat over the next few years, no matter who is at quarterback. They have some solid players coming in the 2027 recruiting class, even though it won't be as strong as they wanted it to be. Still, they have a large amount of talent.
Edmunds would love to be the leader of that talent one day, and his going to work hard to get that opportunity.
