Over the last several weeks, the Ohio State football program has done a good job of canvassing the recruiting trail. They have been doing a great job of landing commitments during that time frame. That includes multiple five-star recruits across three different recruiting classes.

The Buckeyes have been more focused on the 2027 recruiting class. Still, they have landed members from both the 2028 and the 2029 recruiting classes. Ryan Day has done a very good job of getting some commitments from multiple different positions on the field.

After Ohio State landed five-star receiver Jett Harrison in the class of 2028, they are still looking for someone who can throw him the ball. While they haven't received a commitment from a quarterback in the 2028 class yet, they have gotten a crystal ball prediction for one.

Ohio State predicted to land five-star recruit Christopher Vargas

According to multiple insiders on Rivals, the Buckeyes have logged predictions to land five-star QB Christopher Vargas. Vargas is listed as the second-best quarterback in the country. Of course, it is still very early in the 2028 class in terms of the recruiting cycle.

Day does a fantastic job of recruiting quarterbacks, and he continues to do that. He is someone who can develop quarterbacks into top draft picks. It seems like Vargas is interested in that. There's a good chance he gets to watch Julian Sayin become a first-round pick after this year.

Vargas stands at 6'4 and 180 pounds, so he is pretty thin. He still has time to put on some weight in high school, and he certainly will put on some muscle once he gets to college. Still, his arm talent is good enough for Day to pursue him, and he has a cannon for an arm.

Ohio State is doing a good job with its recruiting pitches

The Ohio State Buckeyes have been able to gain commitments from multiple top prospects because of how much they have to offer. They have always had some of the top facilities in the country. Now that they are spending more NIL money, that makes them even more attractive to the top prospects.

It's clear that Day has been getting some help from Ross Bjork on the NIL front. More than that, it has helped Ohio State get more respect from recruits and helped them land some key commits. Adding Vargas would just be another win that the Buckeyes have had on the recruiting trail.

Marcus Fakatou, Austin Miller, and Harrison are all five-star recruits that the Buckeyes were able to land in the last few weeks. They are hoping to land another five-star recruit here soon, but Day is clearly doing something right by landing all of these commitments.

Ohio State is going to keep attacking on the recruiting trail, and they might end up with a top-five recruiting class by the time December rolls around. Day is confident that the strategy he's employed is working well. Based on the results in the last few weeks, it's hard to argue against that.
