There are currently two major Ohio State targets on commit watch for Ryan Day and the rest of his staff. Yes, one of them is 5-star running back David Gabriel Georges, who has been dominating headlines of late. However, it has been easy to forget that four-star defensive lineman Karlos May is getting ready to make his life-changing call as well.
Come Saturday, July 18, May will be shutting down his recruitment, choosing between finalists Ohio State, Georgia, Auburn, and Florida State. While the Bulldogs, Tigers, and Seminoles are all working overtime to land the big-bodied lineman, all signs are pointing to the Buckeyes coming out on top, which is going to end up being huge for Day if and when he gets this done.
4-star DL Karlos May is expected to commit to Ohio State and Ryan Day soon
Out of Ramsay High in Birmingham, Ala., this would be a major get for Ohio State for several reasons. To start, stealing an in-state recruit away from Auburn would be a nice reminder to Alex Golesh that life in the SEC is not going to be easy for him. Secondly, May is a 6-3, 305-pounder who can plug up holes in the middle, and he's got great agility for his size.
He holds 34 offers to his name, is ranked four stars, the No. 15 defensive lineman in the country, and the No. 135 player nationally for the 2027 class. Multiple predictions have come in for Ohio State to land his services, with it looking like even more help will be on the way for Larry Johnson. Nothing is set in stone here, but Ohio State is no question the heavy favorite leading up to July 18.
5-star David Gabriel Georges appears to be torn between Ohio State and Tennessee
Shifting gears to Georges, this is starting to feel like it's going to be a coin flip between Ohio State and Tennessee. The Vols keep working overtime to get this done over the OSU staff, as Josh Heupel is doing everything possible to keep DGG in the state - he's a stud for The Baylor School in Chattanooga.
It also helps Tennessee that 5-star offensive tackle Gabriel Osenda is a former teammate of Georges', and he's now on campus getting ready for his first fall camp under Heupel's direction. Still, Ohio State has gotten Georges to visit several times, also turning his head with its plans for the future for the elite running back.
Georges is the No. 2 running back in the country for a reason. The kid has been nearly impossible to bring down, as he runs with both speed and power. Ole Miss is also still an option for him, but this truly does feel like a two-team race. Georgia was previously involved, but they were recently removed from contention, which wasn't a major problem for Kirby Smart since 5-star Kemon Spell is already on board.
Just like May, Georges is set to announce his commitment soon, with July 22 being the day everyone has marked on their calendars. Will Georges pick the Buckeyes? That's the $1 million question at this time, but your guess is as good as ours.
