The Ohio State football program had the best possible finish to the month of June. On the recruiting trail, the Buckeyes added a five-star defensive lineman, Marcus Fakatou, who should be able to see playing time as a freshman. That's how good a player he is. He becomes the latest recruit that the Buckeyes have snagged.
Of course, Fakatou wasn't the only elite recruit in 2027 to pick the Ohio State Buckeyes this month. They also landed Caden Moss, who is now the best offensive line recruit they have in the class. The class now has 18 recruits in it, which is a good number coming out of June.
On the defensive line, Larry Johnson has worked wonders. Fakatou isn't the only elite defensive line recruit that he has brought in for this class. He also has DJ Jacobs, who is a five-star recruit on the edge. They might not be done adding really good defensive linemen, either.
Ohio State could add another elite defensive lineman
Johnson isn't finished doing work on the recruiting trail. He could still end up adding Karlos May, who is a four-star recruit out of Alabama. We told you that he is projected to pick the Buckeyes, which would give them a massive player in the middle of the defensive line.
There is a chance that they end up flipping one more defensive lineman, as well. It wouldn't be totally shocking to see them flip Reinaldo Perez back after he flipped to Indiana. Of course, fans shouldn't really count on that happening. They have two really good defensive linemen already committed, and May would give them a third.
Of course, it seems that Ohio State has really given the trenches priority in this recruiting class. Both the defensive line and the offensive line have gotten a lot of attention in 2027. Ryan Day clearly wants to add depth at both line spots, and that's exactly what they have done.
Ohio State could end up with a top-five recruiting class
The Buckeyes are not close to being done adding players to this class. By the time December arrives, they could have as many as 27 members in this class with the new roster rules. More than that, Ohio State can still add elite talent, not just numbers at the end of the roster.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have never won a recruiting national championship. The closest they came was in 2021 when they finished with the second-best class in the country. While this class likely comes close to being the best, even if they add a couple of more five-star recruits.
Still, this has the chance to probably be a top-three class. That's plenty good enough for Day, especially with how well he uses the Transfer Portal. The Buckeyes always assemble one of the best rosters year after year. This 2027 class is shaping up to be no different.
Larry Johnson's still got it. It's clear players also want to play in Matt Patricia's system, too. That combination has worked wonders for this class.
