The Ohio State football program has been absolutely on fire on the recruiting trail since the middle of June. They continue to land some of the top prospects in the country. They ended the month of June by adding Marcus Fakatou, a five-star defensive lineman in the 2027 recruiting class.
On Wednesday, they added five-star recruit Jett Harrison to the 2028 recruiting class. He's the brother of a legend, so the Ohio State Buckeyes felt good about their chances of adding him, anyway. Still, it was nice to actually be able to get a commitment from him.
The Buckeyes were hoping to finish off the day with another commitment, as well. Monsanna Torbert, a four-star cornerback recruit, was making his decision between Ohio State, Michigan, and Indiana. Unfortunately, Ohio State wasn't able to win in this recruiting battle.
Ohio State loses out on Monsanna Torbert to Michigan
Torbert decided to commit to TTUN, spurning both the Buckeyes and the Hoosiers. It's not often that Ohio State loses recruiting battles to the Wolverines, but that is what happened in this case. Instead of landing the highest-rated corner recruit for them in this class, they will go back to the drawing board.
While losing Torbert hurts, the Buckeyes still have an enormous amount of momentum on the recruiting trail. They landed a five-star recruit earlier on Wednesday, so this one doesn't sting quite as much. Ohio State still feels good about its approach to the prospects they are looking at.
The Buckeyes have two cornerback recruits for the 2027 class, both of whom are three-star commits. Fans would certainly feel better if they could get a higher-rated recruit at some point, but that might not happen. Walton still has proven he can recruit well, however.
Ohio State's momentum will not be stopped in the month of July
This is just a small bump in the road for Ohio State. There is a chance that Torbert could regret his decision once he has to face the Buckeyes over the next couple of seasons. Ohio State's receivers usually feast on Michigan cornerbacks, so Torbert could end up facing that same fate.
Everything else has been going great for the Buckeyes over the last few weeks. With that being the case, they are not going to let this slow down their momentum. At the end of the month, they will start having practice as they get ready for the 2026 season to begin.
Once the players get back on the field together, they are going to feel even better about themselves. Ohio State is going to get good cornerbacks on the recruiting trail in future classes. They also have a great track record of getting them in the Transfer Portal, just as they did this past offseason.
TTUN can have this minor victory on the recruiting trail. They suffered a horrible loss on the field last year in Ann Arbor, and the Buckeyes believe they can offer a similar beatdown later this year in the Shoe.
