Ohio State football coach Ryan Day talked to the media during Big Ten Media Day out in Las Vegas. He's finally done basking in the glory of having won the national championship last season and has moved on to next season. He's ready to attack next season with plenty of vigor.
Day helped the Ohio State Buckeyes win the first 12-team College Football playoff by being extremely aggressive when it comes to play-calling on the offensive side of the ball. He learned that after losing to Michigan for the fourth consecutive season.
He lost that game because he decided to try to run the ball more than pass it, not allowing Will Howard to use the weapons that he had out at wide receiver. It was a huge mistake. Day seems determined not to let that happen again next season.
Ryan Day gives straight answer when asked about how the Ohio State football team will beat TTUN
When Day was asked how the Buckeyes are going to beat TTUN next season, he gave about as straight forward of an answer as he possibly could have given.
How do you beat Michigan?
— Dan Hope (@Dan_Hope) July 22, 2025
Ryan Day: "By scoring more points than them."
That is a correct answer. That's certainly how you beat TTUN, but the Buckeyes need to have a game plan on how they are going to do that. Day understands that he needs to have a plan to finally get over that hump. He has only done that once so far in his head coaching career.
Of course, Day isn't going to reveal his plan on how to finally get that taken care of in 2025, even with the game being on the road. He is a very good coach, but this is the biggest blemish on his resume. Aggressiveness will likely be the key to winning that game in November, which is something he didn't do last November.
The Ohio State football program will have to prove that it can finally beat TTUN, which is something that the fan base has been clamoring for it to do. Day will be a lot more relaxed going into next season, which might be the key for him to finally get this monkey off his back.
