For the last few months, the Ohio State football program has tried to land a few five-star recruits. They have been mostly successful, landing Marcus Fakatou, Jett Harrison, and Austin Miller. However, there are a couple of five-star recruits they have been spending a lot of time on recently.

One of them is David Gabriel Georges. He is a five-star running back who seems to be choosing between Ohio State and Tennessee. He will be announcing his commitment in a few days, and the Buckeyes have spent a lot of time and resources on his recruitment.

The second is Monshun Sales, a five-star receiver from the state of Indiana. He has been someone that Cortez Hankton has spent a lot of time on over the last few weeks. For a while, it looked like the Buckeyes were the favorites to land him. Unfortunately, that ended up not being the case,

Monshun Sales decides not to commit to the Ohio State football program

Sales decided not to commit to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Instead, he decided to pledge to play for the Hoosiers of Indiana. He announced that on The Pat McAfee Show. That hurts, especially because Sales is going somewhere else in the Big Ten. It wouldn't have hurt as much if he had decided to go to Texas.

Had the Buckeyes been able to land Sales, he would have been the second five-star recruit in the 2027 class for Hankton. Jamier Brown is also part of this class. Bringing in Sales would have meant that Ohio State would have the top two receivers in the class.

This is an unfortunate blow after the Buckeyes seemed to have sealed up his commitment earlier in the cycle. Had Hankton been able to land him, it would have quieted a lot of questions that fans have about him when it comes to recruiting, as he follows in the footsteps of Brian Hartline.

Ohio State still feels confident in landing David Gabriel Georges

It obviously hurts to lose out on a five-star recruit, but the Buckeyes didn't spend as much time and NIL money on Sales as they have with Gabriel Georges. Ohio State is very confident that it can land him, which is necessary for it to have a truly successful 2027 recruiting class.

Gabriel Georges is someone that the Buckeyes identified early on last year as the running back they wanted to land in this class. He's good enough to start right away as a freshman, and he might do that if he picks Ohio State, even with Bo Jackson still on the roster.

If Ohio State is able to land him in a couple of days, losing Sales will be a blow that is softened. Ryan Day is trying to do the best that he can to make sure that Gabriel Georges believes that Ohio State is the best place for him. That would give them the ultimate recruiting victory.

Sales might regret picking Indiana. Ohio State is the best place to develop as a receiver, and the best receiver in the NFL is a Buckeye.
