Earlier this month, Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes were able to make things official with loads of elite playmakers during the Early Signing Period. The long list included safety Kaden Gebhardt, who was once Clemson-bound.

However, he had a change of heart at the last minute and ended up signing to play for Day and his staff. Getting coached up by Dabo Swinney of course would have been great, but when Ohio State comes calling, you pick up. In terms of why he decided to sign with the Buckeyes, the defensive back didn't hold back on why this was an easy call for him:

Ohio State football signee Kaden Gebhardt is ready to make an impact for Ryan Day

If Gebhardt indeed wants to compete against the best in the nation, he's surely heading to the right place. Not only is the talent in the Big Ten out of this world, but he's going to be getting pushed by incredible playmakers each practice.

With Gebhardt being a safety, he's going to have to work overtime during sessions in Columbus to try to help the secondary contain Jeremiah Smith and 5-star freshman Chris Henry Jr. There was worry Henry was going to flip to Oregon the week of the Early Signing Period, but Ohio State was able to hang on.

As for Gebhardt, he indeed had a bit of a last-minute change of heart, letting Clemson know that he wants to play for the reigning national champs instead. With the College Football Playoff here, Gebardt is going to be watching things closely.

Will Ohio State be able to repeat as the champs? There are plenty of haters out there following the loss to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship Game, but the Vegas oddsmakers still see Day's standouts as the favorites to win it all. Should that end up being the case, Gebhardt is only going to feel better about his future with Ohio State, Day and Matt Patricia.
