The Ohio State football program is trying to do something that has never been done before in program history. They are trying to win back-to-back national championships. If they do, they would become the first program since Georgia accomplished that feat in 2021-22.
The Buckeyes were able to have an undefeated regular season before falling to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship Game. Throughout the entire season, the Ohio State Buckeyes have had impact players all over the field. It's why they were able to earn a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff.
Of course, those players are going to need to perform in the postseason for Ohio State to accomplish its goals. Still, they were able to achieve something that no other Ohio State team before this one has been able to achieve in terms of All-Americans.
Ohio State football program has the most unanimous All-Americans in team history
This season, the Buckeyes had more unanimous All-Americans than any other year in team history. The Buckeyes had three of them, and two of them were expected before the season, while one was a surprise who will now likely be a first-round pick in April.
Caleb Downs is one of the ones who everyone expected to be an All-American. He is a unanimous All-American for the second year in a row. He has proven to be the best defensive player in the country and even took home the Jim Thorpe Award.
Jeremiah Smith was the other unanimous All-American that everyone expected before the season. The best offensive weapon for the Buckeyes finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting this season. He still has one more year at Ohio State, so Big Ten foes are going to have to deal with him again.
The unexpected All-American is Kayden McDonald. The defensive tackle has been a revelation for the Buckeyes over the middle, plugging up holes in the running game and pushing the pocket. Now, he is going to get paid a lot of money at the next level.
These three players will be immortalized forever in Ohio State football history with trees in Buckeye Grove. They certainly have earned them.
