It seems that the Ohio State football program looks to be done adding players from the Transfer Portal. They had a very strong week last week when it comes to adding talent after a slow start. The secondary was added to the most, which gives them some help with the big-time depth they lost.
Over the past week, the Ohio State Buckeyes had a chance to become the overwhelming favorites to win a national championship next season. All they had to do was pursue offensive lineman Jordan Seaton. Seaton entered the portal after spending time in Colorado.
Had Seaton been brought in, the Buckeyes could have plugged him in at left tackle. That would have allowed them to move Austin Siereveld to right guard, which has been their biggest trouble spot over the last couple of years. Instead, they let him go to another school.
The Ohio State football program lost out on a big portal opportunity
Seaton decided to commit to LSU after he took several visits across the country. None of them was to Columbus. Ohio State did not try to bring him on campus and never made a real effort to go after him. Apparently, Ryan Day is happy with the offensive line that he has coming back next season.
Perhaps the Buckeyes weren't crazy about the rumored NIL price that Seaton was seeking. Maybe they weren't comfortable with giving an offensive lineman quarterback money. That is certainly understandable, but only if the College Sports Commission is actually going to enforce the rules.
So far, anything goes when it comes to offering NIL money. Teams are not abiding by a salary cap. Ross Bjork even advocated for college football not to have one. Still, that seems to be the primary reason why Ohio State didn't even try to get him on campus.
It's a shame. Seaton is a really good talent and would have solidified the unit up front. Instead, Day will rely on Tyler Bowen to develop the guys already on the roster.
