Ohio State football fans have been screaming at athletic director Ross Bjork for the last few years about his approach to NIL. He has been one of the reasons why the Buckeyes have failed to land high-end recruits and players from the Transfer Portal because of his NIL approach.
Fans have wanted him to open up his checkbook to help pay for some of the five-star recruits at key positions. So far, Bjork has refused to do that. He seems to be sticking fairly close to the rules that the College Sports Commission has set, but it doesn't seem that he is too happy about it.
Bjork seems to have heard the criticism from the fans and is starting to think a little differently. He recently gave an interview that seems to indicate that he wants nothing to do with a salary cap in college football. In fact, he wants it abolished before it ever starts.
Ohio State athletic Ross Bjork doesn't want a salary cap in college football
In an interview with the Bill and Doug Show, Bjork gave his honest opinion on NIL in college football and how he feels about the proposed cap.
"I just feel like anytime we've tried to restrict the environment around the benefits, it leads to people...are they doing the right thing? There are rules published...the question is, will they be enforced?"
This comment seems to lend the thought that Bjork might be trying to keep spending money for the right kinds of players. Perhaps he isn't afraid of the rules being enforced, as everyone assumed he was. He does mention that Ohio State is spending every possible dollar to start the interview, as well.
All fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes have been asking for is for Bjork to spend all of the possible money he can that donors have given him. It seems that, between the revenue sharing and the different marketing deals players have, the Buckeyes are doing the best they can.
If what Ohio State has done the past week in the Transfer Portal is any indication, perhaps Bjork will start opening up the checkbook even more.
