Ohio State football fully disrespected in preseason rankings that just dropped

How is this even possible?

The countdown to Aug. 30 keeps on getting smaller for Ohio State football fans, as a massive showdown at home against Texas is on the way. The Buckeyes can silence their doubters by posting a head-turning win against Arch Manning and Co.

Should Ryan Day and his players celebrate at The Shoe, it will hopefully lead to Brett McMurphy realizing he needs to show this team a touch more respect. On Monday to start the new week, McMurphy released his new preseason Top 25 for On3. People are talking about where he has Ohio State, but not in a good way:

Brett McMurphy has Ohio Stated ranked No. 6 in his preseason poll

Let us start off by saying that we have a ton of love for McMurphy - he does a great job. With that said, Ohio State at No. 6 feels unfair. Yes, replacing Will Howard, Jack Sawyer, Josh Simmons and others is not going to be easy and there's also currently a quarterback battle going on in Columbus.

Plenty of signs are pointing to former 5-star prospect Julian Sayin winning the job, as he's been letting the ball rip thus far at camp. Don't forget that Jeremiah Smith is arguably the best player in the college game, while Caleb Downs is going to be the general on defense.

Thankfully not long after McMurphy dropped his rankings, the Preseason Coaches Poll came out and the Buckeyes checked in at No. 2, only behind No. 1 Texas. The Manning hype is in full effect, with plenty of people assuming the Longhorns will push for the natty.

If that ends up happening, it would wipe away the bad memories for Texas fans after Ohio State took the Longhorns down in the CFP. Sawyer's epic fumble return for a TD will never be forgotten by the OSU faithful, that's for sure.

Soon enough, these two teams will go to battle at The Shoe in the biggest game of the opening weekend. McMurphy will be watching that closely, and he'll have to pay attention if Ohio State ends up taking care of business the way we anticipate them to.
