The Ohio State football program hasn't had quite as productive a month on the recruiting trail as they were hoping. For the 2027 recruiting class, they have only landed three commitments thus far. It would have felt better to see the Buckeyes land at least five, but that's okay.

While the Ohio State Buckeyes didn't land a ton of prospects, they did get a lot of predictions to land some elite recruits. One of those recruits is five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou. Fakatou has gotten several predictions to land him for next year's class.

Fakatou would be the second five-star defensive line recruit to pick the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2027 class, along with DJ Jacobs. Fakatou also has Texas and Georgia in his final list of schools as well. Now, these schools know when Fakatou will decide to commit.

Ohio State football recruiting target Marcus Fakatou to announce commitment Monday

According to Adam Gornoy of Rivals, Fakatou will be making his recruiting decision on Monday. That is when the Buckeyes will find out if they will have him in Scarlet and Gray next year. By all accounts, it seems as though they will have him as part of their class.

Fakatou is one of the best recruits in the class, as he is listed as the second-best recruit in the country on the defensive line. Having both he and Jacobs in the same class would be an all-time snap for Larry Johnson, who continues to prove that he is a great coach and recruiter.

Even if the Buckeyes do land Fakatou on Monday, they will need to keep recruiting him for the entirety of Fall heading into the winter, as Signing Day isn't until December. They don't want to have him flip his commitment late in the cycle, as that would be the worst thing possible.

Scoring a commitment at the end of June would be great for the Buckeyes

Being able to end the month of June with a commitment would be fantastic for Ohio State. It would allow them to end the month with a ton of momentum into the month of July, which is when they will begin practicing again. It could also set off a storm of commits from other recruits.

Ohio State is still awaiting word from Monshun Sales, who is a five-star receiver. It seems to be a two-team race between the Buckeyes and the Hoosiers for his services. He would be the second five-star receiver recruit for Ohio State in this class, along with Jamier Brown.

David Gabriel Georges is the recruit that Ohio State has put the most energy into landing. They might be slight favorites, but it's still neck-and-neck between them and Tennessee. Getting an all-world talent at receiver and running back would be great work for Ryan Day.

At this point, it would be shocking if Fakatou picked someone other than Ohio State. They have been on him from the start, and he seems to like everything that they have to offer.
