The Ohio State football program doesn't go all-in for recruits very often. They are usually very measured when it comes to their talent evaluations. They have refused to spend a lot of money on most elite recruits, with Ryan Day preferring to spend that money on proven talent.
In the 2027 recruiting class, Ohio State has DJ Jacobs, who was rated as the top recruit in the country at one point. Still, their current recruiting class ranking is not very high. They sit just tenth in the rankings at this point in the cycle. The class should get better over the summer, though.
One elite recruit that Ohio State desperately wants is five-star running back David Gabriel Georges. Georges whittled down his final schools list to four different programs. Now, we have a commitment date for when he will end up making his final decision.
Ohio State recruiting target David Gabriel Georges sets commitment date
According to Tom Loy of Rivals, Georges has set a commitment date for July 22. That is when he will choose between the Buckeyes, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Georgia. With the Ohio State Buckeyes being the only non-SEC school, they have had to pony up when it comes to NIL offers.
Georges is from Tennessee, and it seems like the Buckeyes and the Vols are the two favorites to bring him in. He stands 6-feet tall and 205 pounds. He has blazing fast speed, as he was clocked running a sub-4.4 40-yard dash recently. Not only does he possess speed, but he has power to match.
Adding Georges would see OSU bring in the most talented running back recruit since TreVeyon Henderson. Georges would have a shot to start from day one he steps on campus. He's such a good player, but the Vols are doing everything they can to land him.
Ohio State football will hope to impress Georges on an official visit
The one bad thing about this commitment date is when Georges is scheduled to visit. He is going to visit at the end of May, and Ohio State is the first of the final four schools he will visit. That means that they don't get a chance to get the final impression on him before he decides on his school.
On the flip side, the Buckeyes will have a chance to put a strong first impression on Georges. If they blow him away, every other school will be held to that standard. That is the best-case scenario for Ohio State with this recruitment. This is the number-one target on their board.
If they were able to add Georges, it would give Ohio State its third five-star recruit of this class. That would certainly raise their recruiting rankings. The end of the month is when Ohio State should start to get more commits, as camp season has started.
This summer will be more active on the recruiting trail for Day and his coaching staff. Adding Georges would be a great start to the summer.
