Ohio State does something they have never done before in the NFL Draft

The Buckeyes have done a lot of things, but they have never done this before.

Over the first two days of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Ohio State football team had eight guys picked. It was basically just one giant recruiting tool for the Buckeyes to use during every in-home visit they will have this summer. Surprisingly, they only had one guy taken in the third round.

That was tight end Will Kacmarek. Kacmarek spent two years with the Buckeyes after transferring over from Ohio. He was taken with the 87th overall pick by the Miami Dolphins. Every other player taken in the first couple of days was in either the first or second round.

Also taken in the second round was Max Klare. Klare, the other tight end for the Buckeyes, was grabbed by the Los Angeles Rams. Two tight ends don't get drafted very often from Ohio State in the same draft. In fact, it was something that had never happened before.

Ohio State football team has two tight ends drafted in the same draft for the first time

For the first time ever, the Bucks had two tight ends taken in the same draft. That's an incredible stat that shows just how rare it is that the Buckeyes use the tight ends enough to get noticed, let alone two of them. This time, both tight ends were good enough to be taken.

Kacmarek is a tough tight end. Even though he only caught 15 passes last season, two of them went for touchdowns. He turned into an excellent blocker on the edge, which is clearly what attracted him to Jeff Halfley and the Dolphins. He doesn't need the ball to be effective.

Perhaps this draft will help Ryan Day attract more top-end tight ends in the next few recruiting classes, although both of these tight ends transferred in from other schools. Still, it's yet another recruiting tool that the Buckeyes can use to their advantage from this draft.
