Ohio State commit's future up in the air after official visit to Big Ten rival

The long-time Ohio State football commit admitted that his future is now up in the air after his recent visit.

Over the last few months, the Ohio State football program has started to look at bringing in other quarterbacks for the 2027 recruiting class. Instead of sticking with Brady Edmunds, who has been committed to the Buckeyes since 2024, Ryan Day has communicated with other prospects at that position.

Edmunds has been watching what Day has been doing. Despite growing up an Ohio State fan, Edmunds has seemingly opened up his recruitment. He took an official visit this weekend to UCLA, indicating that he has started to open up his options.

It's hard to blame Edmunds for looking into other schools after Day decided to look at other quarterbacks. After his visit to Los Angeles, it now looks like Edmunds might be reconsidering his pledge to the Ohio State Buckeyes. In fact, he said as much.

Ohio State commit Brady Edmunds might not end up in Columbus

Following his visit, Edmunds was very blunt about his future. He told Rivals that things have certainly changed since his commitment in December of 2024.

"I don't know where I'm going."

It's not surprising that Edmunds is now waffling in his collegiate decision. Part of that might be Ohio State's doing, as well. If they are looking for a different quarterback to come in, they might have told Edmunds to look elsewhere. Of course, that wouldn't be smart to do unless they have another QB lined up to take his spot in the class.

The Buckeyes' cooling off of Edmunds is somewhat surprising based on how he has played in his most recent high school season. He clearly has a lot of talent, so Day must see something that the rest of the country doesn't. Of course, he might change his mind and still end up taking Edmunds in this class.

The Ohio State football team has to figure out several positions in the 2027 recruiting class

While there is a lot of time before the 2027 class signs, the Buckeyes have a lot of different positions they still need to address before that day comes. Quarterback would just be one of them if Edmunds ends up leaving for UCLA or another program. Ohio State still needs depth at several other spots.

Cornerback is one of those spots. They don't have a commitment at that spot yet, although they do have a prediction to get one. Running back is another position that needs a recruit. They hope they can land David Gabriel Georges in order to fill that role in this class.

Ohio State still has plenty of time to get recruits into this class. No one on staff is panicking, but some fans do get restless. That is especially true when it seems like other Big Ten programs are getting commitment announcements daily. The Bucks seem a little left out.

This is the month that will change that. Ohio State should add several members to its 2027 recruiting class by the time June ends. If they can't, then it's an appropriate time for fans to start freaking out.
