The Ohio State Buckeyes started a new tradition last season of ringing the Victory Bell before every game. It's a tradition that doesn't make much sense, since you would typically ring the bell after a victory. However, it's a tradition that doesn't have high stakes, so it's fine to introduce.

Since last season, the Buckeyes have brought back plenty of former greats to ring the bell before the game starts. This weekend, there will be another former great in Columbus to ring the bell. It will be former cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, who is one of the best DB's in program history.

Ohio State announces as Malcolm Jenkins as the Victory Bell ringer before Maryland

The Ohio State Buckeyes officially announced Jenkins as the ringer of the bell on social media. Jenkins was one of the most accomplished players in Ohio State football history. During his time, he racked up all kinds of awards and accolades during his time in Columbus.

Jenkins was a three-time All-Big Ten performer. He was also named Second-team All-America and a Consensus All-American in consecutive years. Jenkins walked away with the Jim Thorpe Award in 2008 as the best defensive back in the country in his final year with the Buckeyes.

After his time in Columbus, Jenkins had an incredible NFL career. He played 13 seasons with two different teams. He won two Super Bowls, was named to three Pro Bowls, and was named All-Pro twice. This is an honor that Jenkins certainly has earned.

Having him ring the bell in a game against Maryland means that Jenkins is almost guaranteed to see a victory. The Buckeyes are massive favorites over the Terrapins. It likely will be a game that is a blowout early in the second half, which means that Jenkins should be a happy camper.

Ohio State has a shot to get a lot of valuable experience for young players vs. Maryland

The Buckeyes will likely play a lot of younger players in this matchup. They already have a couple of receivers who are questionable for this game, which could mean added playing time for some of the younger ones. Chris Henry Jr. and Brock Boyd could get some real action.

Defensively, expect the same thing to happen in the second half. This could be the game where we finally see some extended snaps for Khary Wilder. He didn't play against Iowa, and it seems he might have done something to anger the coaches. Regardless, he is too talented to keep off the field.

It will also likely be another chance for Tavien St. Clair to prove that he can be the quarterback of the future. He has looked bad in the other opportunities that he's had to play this season, so there might be cause for alarm. Still, he has time to turn things around in this contest.

Jenkins should love the thrashing that his Buckeyes will likely give the Terps. He should be able to celebrate a victory and have his family there with him to see it. However, things get tough after this game. Ohio State will be back in the gauntlet soon.
