Ohio State has a tough schedule this season. They have already played both Texas and Iowa on the road. The Buckeyes lost a 20-point lead against the Longhorns but crushed the Hawkeyes. They still have to play three more ranked teams, including two of them on the road.
However, this week is not one of the tougher games the Ohio State Buckeyes will face. Maryland comes to town for homecoming, and they are one of the worst teams in the Big Ten. It's good that Maryland is so bad because two starting receivers might not play on Saturday.
Ohio State receivers Devin McCuin and Brandon Inniss lsited as questionable against Maryland
According to the Big Ten availability report, both Brandon Inniss and Devin McCuin are both listed as questionable. McCuin is coming off the best game of his short-lived Ohio State football career. He had four catches for 80 yards and a touchdown against the Hawkeyes.
Inniss is one of the captains of the team. Even if his production hasn't been strong so far this season, not having him on the field means that younger receivers will have a better chance to get some meaningful snaps. That means that Brock Boyd and Chris Henry Jr. could see more time on the field.
Of course, both McCuin and Inniss could still see the field on Saturday afternoon. Being listed as questionable does not mean that they won't play in this game. There is still a very real shot that they both play, even if it's only for a half. However, Ohio State doesn't need to risk anything.
Personally, I think it would be smart to sit both players. Why risk having either of them get seriously hurt in a game that Ryan Day could roll out the backups and easily win? They should give Boyd and Henry Jr. some more reps. Kyle Parker should get to play a lot in his debut, as well.
Ohio State still has Jeremiah Smith to carry it to victory
As long as Jeremiah Smith is healthy, he can help carry the Buckeyes to victories almost by himself. He has over 400 yards receiving in each of the last two games. That's how good a player he is. He is now the Heisman Trophy leader, and that will likely continue this weekend.
If both McCuin and Inniss are out, Smith should see even more passes thrown his way. He is the greatest receiver in the history of the Ohio State Buckeyes, which he has proven time and time again. If there was ever a game for him to reach 250 receiving yards, this could be it. He would have to play the whole game, however.
McCuin and Inniss aren't the only two players listed as questionable. Exciting freshman defensive lineman Khary Wilder also showed up on the report. He didn't play against Iowa for some reason. Phillip Daniels is also listed as questionable, but Ryan Day seemed optimistic that they will get him back for this game.
No matter what happens, the Buckeyes should be able to win this game by quite a lot. Maryland isn't good enough to compete with this team.
