Ohio State had several receivers bolt from the program during the offseason. Most of them went to the Transfer Portal, including two former five-star recruits in Quincy Porter and Mylan Graham. Both of them decided to play for Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame.
Both receivers were expected to be a big part of the roster this year for the Fighting Irish. While Ohio State replaced them with other players from the portal, the two new Irish players have done next to nothing. Notre Dame fans are furious with the lack of production.

Word came from Freeman that Quincy Porter will miss the rest of the season after having knee surgery. He didn't play a single down this year. Fans are now mad about the lack of production from both former five-star recruits. One tweet sent Notre Dame fans into a spiral.

Porter will finish this season without recording a single statistic for the Fighting Irish. Graham hasn't done much better, as he has just three catches for 32 yards in four games this season. There is a reason that the Buckeyes decided to let both of them go instead of ponying up NIL money for them.
While Ohio State doesn't have a proven second receiver next to Jeremiah Smith, they thought they were better off without both Porter and Graham. That should have said something to Notre Dame before they decided to sign both of them coming out of the Transfer Portal.
Both receivers are still young, so this isn't the end of the line for them. Still, it wouldn't be surprising to see one of them move on from Notre Dame at the end of the season. One of them could move down to a lower-level program. Graham might be the biggest candidate for that at this point.
Ohio State might not need a second receiver with how well Jeremiah Smith is playing
Smith has been playing at another level so far this season. He leads the country in receiving, and he will likely break another Ohio State record on Saturday afternoon. He is the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, and it's hard to say that he shouldn't be after he just caught four touchdowns in a single game.
If Smith is going to be this good, perhaps the Ohio State Buckeyes don't need a second receiver to step up next to him. Maybe the Buckeyes can get through the year with having one elite receiver and a decent running game. They will find that out this Saturday.
Iowa is the best defense in college football from a points-per-game perspective. If Ohio State's offense struggles to put up points, then they definitely need other playmakers to step up. The defense might be the problem, anyway.
Stopping the run might be the biggest issue that Ohio State has this season. They tried to spend their NIL money on players who could do that instead of paying Graham and Porter for lackluster production. That was smart.
