The Ohio State football program is the most sought-after scholarship offer for high school recruits all across the state of Ohio. Every high school kid grows up dreaming about playing for the Buckeyes. Of course, only the best of the best are able to get offers and a chance to play in the Shoe.
Ryan Day has made it a priority to bring in as many kids from the state as possible. Of course, they all have to be talented enough to play. They can also only take a certain number of kids at a position, so some kids get squeezed out. One freshman was dearly hoping for an offer.
Freshman Jonathan Brown was that freshman. He ended up going to Michigan after he didn't receive an offer from the Ohio State Buckeyes. He went to St. Francis DeSales High School with Day's son, too. Now, Brown says he felt disrespected not getting an offer from the Buckeyes.
TTUN running back feels disrespected after not getting an offer from Ohio State
While speaking on Coaches Corner with John McCallister, Brown revealed his feelings about Day and the Buckeyes when he didn't get an offer.
"I would say it wasn't disappointing. I felt more disrespected because I knew Coach Day personally, and we had conversations. But yeah, I felt disrespected."
Brown was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, so he wasn't a highly-touted back. However, he clearly thought he earned an offer from Day, especially since his son was the high school quarterback. Instead, he decided to head to Ohio State's archrivals.
While Brown might feel disrespected, there is nothing he can do. He simply wasn't good enough to warrant the Buckeyes getting him a scholarship offer. Ohio State will likely stifle him for years to come, and it's unclear if Brown will ever get significant playing time for TTUN.
Ohio State decided to bring in another in-state running back over Brown. Favor Akih is who Day wanted instead of Brown. Time will tell if that was the right decision or not.
