The Ohio State football program has been working hard on the recruiting trail over the last few months. Yet, they haven't been able to turn the momentum they have built into commitments. The Buckeyes haven't had one in about a month, which is surprising.
Yet, Ryan Day has not panicked. He knows that there will be more coming at some point down the line. In fact, he feels very confident that the team will have a very solid 2027 recruiting class by the time it's all said and done. They are still in the hunt for several five-star recruits.
That includes defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou. He recently narrowed down his school list to a final three. Along with the Ohio State Buckeyes, he also has Texas and Georgia on his list. Based on a slew of recent predictions, it looks like he should be choosing Ohio State soon.
Ohio State gets another prediction to land Marcus Fakatou
It seems like every industry insider is predicting the Buckeyes to land the monster recruit. Now, Fakatou has just received his fifth prediction to end up in Columbus. Mind you, this is just a day after he mentioned that two other schools are still in the running.
None of the predictions logged by experts is super-high in confidence level. Still, having five different insiders believing that he will pick the Ohio State Buckeyes is noteworthy. It also indicates that he will be making a decision sooner rather than later, although no official commitment date has been set yet.
Fakatou would be the second five-star defensive lineman that Larry Johnson has landed this cycle. They already have DJ Jacobs, who is listed as the best edge recruit in the country. It would show that the veteran coach still has it, and he was right not to listen to fans who wanted him to retire.
Why have recruits waited so long to commit to Ohio State?
If the Buckeyes are getting all of these predictions to land elite recruits, what is taking them so long to actually commit? There are a couple of reasons why prospects are likely waiting to commit to the program. One of them is clearly NIL. They are looking around at other programs, trying to figure out how much money they can get.
Secondly, players want to make sure they make the right decision when it comes to picking the right school. With a possible college sports bill coming down the pipeline that would make transferring harder, these kids want to make sure they play for a school they see a future with.
If these predictions come true, then Ohio State won't have to worry too much longer about getting an elite prospect. All that matters is they have a solid class when December rolls around. Still, it would be nice to get a few more high school kids excited about coming to Columbus sooner than that.
It wouldn't be shocking to see Fakatou make an announcement as soon as next week.
