The Ohio State football program hasn't had the strongest start to the recruiting trail this year. They have just 13 commits in the 2027 recruiting class so far. That doesn't mean that they don't have some really good prospects pledged in this class. In fact, the Buckeyes have DJ Jacobs.
Jacobs is the best edge guy in the country. He is the top-rated recruit in Ohio State's class and likely will be for the entire season. Miami fans keep claiming that he is going to flip to the Hurricanes, but Jacobs has remained committed for quite a while. He's locked in with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Despite Miami fans' delusions, Jacobs seems in love with Ohio State. In fact, he surprised everyone on Friday by taking a surprise visit to campus. That shows how much Jacobs is locked in with Ohio State, despite what others are projecting about him.
DJ Jacobs takes surprise visit to Ohio State
The visit was documented by Jacobs on his social media account. Having him on campus right now is key for the Buckeyes as they have another round of official visitors on campus. Jacobs could be there to help Ohio State recruit some of the guys they have coming in.
Monshun Sales is the biggest recruit that Ohio State has coming in this weekend. The five-star receiver seems to be choosing between the Buckeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers. If Jacobs can sway him in favor of Ohio State, that would be huge. The fact that he's on campus recruiting others is huge.
Miami fans will dismiss this with some unintelligible garbage. They are still mad that Jeremiah Smith left South Florida for Columbus, and they have never gotten over it. Since then, they want to steal any possible recruit from Ohio State, no matter how unrealistic it is.
Ohio State feels good about how their recruiting class will end up
The Buckeyes have to figure out how to land more recruits in the next month, but they are not panicking by any stretch. In fact, they still feel very confident about where the class will ultimately end up when the year ends. Signing Day isn't until December, so they still have plenty of time.
Getting kids on campus in the Fall when games start up again will be big for them. That will allow them to keep showing these kids what the environment is like on game day. It's sometimes hard for kids to envision them on the field in the Shoe until they are able to actually see it with their own eyes.
Fans don't need to panic about how the recruiting is going, either. If Ohio State still has 13 commits by the end of the month, then they can start to worry. If Jacobs is recruiting other kids to Columbus, that likely won't happen. The total will be greater by the time this weekend ends.
Jacobs could turn into a key prospect for Ohio State if he is actively recruiting other kids to Columbus.
