The Ohio State football team has seemed to stall out when it comes to recruiting momentum. Despite having multiple predictions logged for four and five-star recruits, they have yet to transfer that into any commitments. The Buckeyes have some visitors this weekend, so they're hoping they can change that.

Still, the Ohio State Buckeyes clearly need to get busier on the recruiting trail. Getting recruits to pledge now will help them grab even more recruits down the line. That is the goal for Ohio State, especially defensive line coach Larry Johnson. He is hot on the tail of a five-star recruit.

Marcus Fakatou is a five-star defensive lineman who has been heavily considering the Buckeyes. He has already made a visit to campus. While it's unclear when he will make his final collegiate decision, he has narrowed his final school list down. Lucky for Ohio State, they are on his final three list.

Ohio State makes the cut for five-star recruit Marcus Fakatou

Fakatou officially narrowed down his list to three schools. Other than Ohio State, he is also still considering Georgia and Texas. He has canceled visits to Notre Dame and Oregon, as those were the other schools he was previously considering. Now, it's down to Ohio State and two schools they can't stop beating on the field.

The Longhorns did just add another defensive lineman, so that might help Ohio State's pursuit of Fakatou. After his visit, Fakatou was given multiple crystal ball predictions to sign with the Buckeyes. That has not changed with this announcement. If anything, those predictions look stronger now.

Fakatou has already had official visits to all three of his final schools in the last three weeks. Essentially, he's seen everything that he needs to see. That might indicate that a decision is coming soon, which would benefit Ohio State. Since they are in the lead, a decision sooner rather than later would be helpful.

Ohio State desperately needs some momentum on the recruiting trail

Adding Fakatou to the recruiting class would be a big help. Right now, the 2027 recruiting class for Ohio State sits just 16th in the country. They sit behind programs like Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Auburn. This would be by far the worst recruiting class under Ryan Day.

Getting any kind of commitment would certainly help right now. Changing the vibes on the recruiting trail is important for this team in the middle of camp season. Camp season hasn't lent its way to any commits quite yet, but that should happen within the next few weeks.

Ryan Day will not panic when it comes to this recruiting class. December is still a long way away, and that is when the Buckeyes will need to worry about the class. Wrapping up prospects at that moment is the most important time for Ohio State to get commitments.

Getting another five-star recruit would be a banner year for Johnson. Landing both Fakatou and DJ Jacobs would give Ohio State two elite commits to play for the next three years.
