Jeremiah Smith all but confirms Miami never had a shot at stealing him from Ohio State

We're used to it by now, but Jeremiah Smith's latest comments sure have plenty of Ohio State fans even happier that he is staying in Columbus for one more campaign. This past offseason, Smith admitted that schools were working to get him to transfer, and while he didn't mention Miami by name, he strongly hinted that Mario Cristobal was trying to work his magic.

That's what makes Smith's time at Big Ten Media Days extra special. The All-American wideout confirmed with the media on hand that he had a $10 million offer to tell Ryan Day he was going to leave town to suit up elsewhere in 2026. That didn't happen, though, with Smith dropping the mic on why nothing was going to get him to do so.

"I never really thought about leaving Ohio State," Smith said. "Always wanted to be at Ohio State, and it would have been dumb for me to leave Ohio State to go to another team when I have one of the best offensive lines in the country, best quarterback in the country, best coaches in the country, so that would have been a stupid move for me."

Again, Smith didn't mention Miami here, so we don't want to make it seem like the Canes and Cristobal were the ones to put $10 million on the table. However, with Smith previously confirming that Miami was in the hunt to poach him, this tells us that The U, and every other school for that matter, never had a shot at getting him to transfer. Smith has silenced Miami rumors several times throughout his OSU career as well.

This is of course something that the Ohio State faithful are still feeling thankful about, and rightfully so. When it was announced that offensive coordinator Brian Hartline was leaving for USF, there was some buzz that maybe Smith would look to play elsewhere. On top of that, 5-star wideout Chris Henry Jr. was seriously considering flipping his verbal pledge to Oregon.

In the end, Henry signed with the Buckeyes, and Smith is entering his third year with the program. Those two wideouts are going to give opposing defenses all sorts of issues, with Julian Sayin having a pair of elite talents to throw to. Smith knows he's one of the best players in the game, and his NFL Draft stock couldn't be higher entering Week 1.

Again, several teams, including Miami, were dreaming of having him be a stud for their team in '26, but Day kept him in town and that was never in question. Smith also knows Ohio State is loaded in all three phases of the game, which gives him a shot at winning another natty with the Big Ten powerhouse. If all goes to plan, he'll add another national title to his collection before he ultimately says goodbye to Ohio State for the NFL. It'd be a perfect ending for him, and one Miami and others weren't going to prevent him in trying to get done.
