It's time to do more with more for Ryan Day and Ohio State

The Ohio State football program always has some of the best talent in the country. It's time Ryan Day shows that this season.

The Ohio State football team has one of the most talented rosters in college football every single year. Ryan Day does a fabulous job of bringing in high school talent and players from the Transfer Portal. That's something that Day deserves a lot of credit for.

Day's talent accumulation is something to acknowledge. No program has more first-round picks than the Ohio State Buckeyes. This year, they had four of them, including the fourth overall pick. Day does a great job of assembling the talent in the right spots on the field.

Yet, Day has won just two Big Ten championships. He has only two wins over Michigan as a head coach, and only one of them was with his own players. That national championship he has is doing some heavy lifting on his resume. He needs to do some winning at the highest level with all of that talent.

The Ohio State football team needs one season of completing all three goals

Every year, the Buckeyes have three goals that they set for themselves. They want to beat TTUN, win a Big Ten Championship, and a national championship. Granted, it's very hard for them to accomplish all three goals, since that means winning at the highest level every single year.

However, Day has only one season in which he has completed two of those three goals. Back in 2019, Ohio State beat TTUN and won a Big Ten championship. Other than that, he has either accomplished one or none of the goals he set for his team. With the amount of talent he has, that level of winning isn't good enough.

This year, Ohio State will once again have one of the most talented teams in the country on paper. They have an excellent offense with plenty of playmakers. Defensively, they led every meaningful statistic last year and kept Matt Patricia on board, so that unit should be very good as well.

The Ohio State football program has still acccomplished plenty under Ryan Day

Don't get me wrong. Day has still accomplished a lot in his time as Ohio State's head coach. He is an excellent leader, and his players play extremely hard for him. That's a skill on its own. His guys want to win games so badly for him because they know how much criticism he gets.

Day is still one of the best coaches in the country. Of active college football coaches, he is one of four to have a national championship victory. That's a feat that other fan bases would die for. However, Ohio State is no ordinary fan base. It expects excellence every year.

There needs to be one year soon in which Day accomplishes all three of his goals. It's something his predecessors have done. If he wants to be considered one of the greatest coaches in program history, he is going to have to get the clean sweep sooner or later.

Ohio State football fans would love it if it's sooner.
