Hype train for Ohio State freshman starting to take off in a big way

The Buckeye freshman had a lot of talk surrounding him in the spring, and that has only continued during Fall camp.

Back in the spring, the Buckeyes had a couple of freshmen shed their black stripe. Chris Henry Jr., a five-star recruit coming out of high school, lost his. He was expected to shed his stripe quickly, as he has all of the physical tools to be the next great Ohio State receiver.

The other freshman who got his stripe removed was Brock Boyd. Boyd is another receiver, but he was less celebrated coming out of high school. Yet, his play in the spring made a massive impression. Now, the hype train for him is beginning to take off again in Fall camp.

Ohio State freshman Brock Boyd continues to impress coaches and pundits alike

Boyd continues to turn heads with his play early on in camp. Former Ohio State linebacker Bobby Carpenter attended the first scrimmage that the Ohio State Buckeyes had, and he was incredibly impressed with what Boyd had to offer. He detailed that on The Bobby Carpenter Show.

"Brock Boyd looked really good in the scrimmage. When I was still there, he had a couple of catches. It was like he had 70 yards of receptions on about two catches. It was some nice chunk plays he was picking up."

Boyd continues to show that he is ready to play right away. With the Buckeyes losing Carnell Tate to the Titans in the draft, that is something that they might need. They need some guys who can step up and help replace his production in the aggregate.

Boyd was only a three-star recruit coming out of high school. However, he was his team's best receiver in Texas, and that was at the 6A level. He knows how high-level football is played, and he has shown Ryan Day and the rest of the coaches that right off the bat.

Ohio State could get multiple freshman receivers involved this year

There is a great chance that both Henry Jr. and Boyd see quite a few snaps this season. Other than Jeremiah Smith, the door is wide open for someone to steal some playing time. Devin McCuin is the other receiver who has been turning heads so far in training camp.

Brandon Inniss is well-respected among his teammates, but his production hasn't matched. There's a good chance that continues in his senior season, although he could play next year with the new rules that have been passed. Kyle Parker is fighting for snaps, too.

Still, it wouldn't be shocking to see both Henry Jr. and Boyd catch passes this year. Henry Jr. has the better chance to see meaningful snaps, but Boyd could get some routes in certain packages. He certainly deserves to get some playing time based on what he's done already.

Even if Boyd doesn't become one of the top four receivers this season, his future is bright in Columbus. Next season, he will be a huge part of what Ohio State wants to do. It seems that he would be the perfect player to put in the slot.
