The Ohio State football program is fully invested in spring practice. They have had a handful of practices as they try to integrate 51 new players into the roster. After losing 30+ players to the Transfer Portal, the Buckeyes utilized the portal and also the high school ranks.

Ohio State is trying to figure out who will play what roles, especially with some new faces on the coaching staff. The Ohio State Buckeyes have Arthur Smith and Cortez Hankton on the staff. They both replace Brian Hartline in different roles now that he is in South Florida.

Hankton has a wealth of experience in the college game. After coming from LSU, he knows what the standard is for the Buckeyes at the wide receiver spot. He is singing the praises of a freshman receiver who might see some snaps later in the season.

Freshman Brock Boyd comes in as one of the underrated receiver recruits for the Buckeyes. While everyone was talking about five-star freshman Chris Henry Jr., Boyd has been quietly doing work. Hankton has noticed and decided to give him some props.

“What makes Brock a truly good football player, first and foremost, is his football IQ … He understands the game like he’s a three-year college student.”

Boyd set some records in Texas, which is a very football-talent-rich state. In order to do that, he must be a special player. While he might not see the field a lot as a freshman, he will certainly contribute to the program down the line. He is someone who will do everything right in the shadows.

Ohio State fans should be excited about Boyd moving forward. Hankton likes what he's seen in the first few weeks with him, and that should only continue.
