With it being the preseason in the NFL, players on rosters are trying to keep their spot on the team. That includes several former Ohio State football players, as well. Guys across the league are hoping to realize their dream of being a professional football player.

One of those players is former Buckeye running back Chip Trayanum. Trayanum played for the Buckeyes for two of his six collegiate seasons. He's playing for the Jets now, and he is trying to make the team. However, he suffered a serious neck injury in the team's final preseason game.

Former Ohio State RB Chi Trayanum hospitalized with neck injury

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Trayanum was hospitalized with a neck injury, although he did have movement in all of his extremities.

Before getting hurt, Trayanum was the most effective back the Jets had against the Giants. He carried the ball 12 times for 38 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 25 yards in the game, as well. That made him the second-leading receiver for New York.

This is a very scary situation for Trayanum. It sounds like he will be okay, but being hospitalized because of a neck injury is not something to mess around with. He is on the fringes of the roster, so this injury could be something that keeps him from making the team.

Trayanum transferred three times in his collegiate career. He came from Arizona State to be a linebacker for the Buckeyes before moving back to running back. After two years in Columbus, he played at Kentucky. For his final year in college, he played at Toledo.

Playing for the Rockets is where Trayanum thrived. He had his best year, running for 1,015 yards and 12 touchdowns. Even so, he went undrafted, so he has been trying to make the Jets to realize his NFL dreams. It seems that he is determined to make an NFL team as a running back.

Ohio State has plenty of great players who have thrived in the preseason

While Trayanum might struggle to make the roster, the Buckeyes have several other players who have excelled so far this offseason. Caden Curry continues to impress with the Colts. Caleb Downs has already looked like the steal of the draft for the Dallas Cowboys, too.

As the Ohio State Buckeyes prepare for their Week 1 game against Ball State, they have plenty of other future NFL players. There is a good chance that they have at least three first-round draft picks next season, with Jeremiah Smith being the best one of the bunch.

Ohio State is the most talented team in the country, which is why they are the top-ranked team. Every year, they produce under-the-radar talent in the NFL. That is what Curry is for Indianapolis, and that is what multiple Buckeyes will be for their prospective NFL teams this year.

As far as Trayanum is concerned, we hope that he is able to get out of the hospital and continue his NFL dream.
