This has been a big offseason for Ohio State football uniforms. They have introduced three new uniforms in the last week. They introduced all-black uniforms, which they haven't worn since a blackout game against Wisconsin back in 2022.
The Buckeyes also introduced all-Scarlet uniforms and all-white uniforms, both of which they have worn before as well. The biggest news is the fact that Ohio State has decided to add the gray sleeves back into its normal uniforms. That is something fans have been clamoring for since they got rid of them.
With three new uniforms, that means the Ohio State Buckeyes have to figure out three games to wear these alternate uniforms. Which games might they pick? Based on the schedule, I've got some guesses as to when they might decide to throw on the alternate threads.
Scarlet Rush uniforms: November 7 vs. Oregon
The most logical date to break out the black uniforms would've been at home against the Ducks, but that game is not going to be a night game based on the fact that Notre Dame is having a night game on NBC that date. That means they should employ the all-scarlet uniforms instead.
Ohio State's goal with these new uniforms is to get as many eyes on them as possible. There will be a lot of eyes on this game, as the Ducks will be fighting for a College Football Playoff spot again. That game late in the year could decide whether or not they make it. This is a good spot to employ the Scarlet Rush uniforms.
Sub-Zero uniforms: Oct 17 at Indiana
Once again, this is going to be a game with a lot of eyeballs on it. It's a rematch of last year's Big Ten Championship Game. With the Hoosiers being the defending national champions, Ohio State is going to have some extra juice in this one. Wearing all-white uniforms for a big-time road game like this makes sense.
Ohio State is going to be seeking revenge for how the Big Ten Championship went. The Buckeyes don't need the extra juice of alternate uniforms to win this game, but it would once again get a lot of eyeballs on the uniforms. It wouldn't be surprising for them to circle this game for the all-white unis.
All-black uniforms: September 26 vs. Illinois
With the Oregon game off the table, it's tough to find another premier home game with juice to have the crowd be in a blackout. The Illinois game might be the only one with any sort of motion that would get fans excited to see them play in the all-black uniforms.
The last time Ohio State wore all-black uniforms, it was a home game at the end of September. There is precedent for using the uniforms early on in the schedule. Ohio State certainly isn't going to wear them at the end of the year for The Game, so this spot on the schedule makes the most sense.
If there's one game that the Bucekyes shouldn't use for alternate uniforms, it's the one against TTUN.
