Ex-Ohio State football player and blue-chip recruit slated to start for rival team

It looks like the former Buckeye is going to see a lot of playing time at his new destination.

The Ohio State football program had an exodus of players in the offseason. It was the most players that Ryan Day has lost to the Transfer Portal since he became the head coach. Day added a fair number of players from the portal to replace those players, although they weren't able to replace all of the talent.

One of the former players who entered the portal was former five-star receiver Mylan Graham. Graham decided to transfer to Notre Dame, and then immediately trashed the Buckeyes. Since then, he has been trying to earn some playing time and played well in the Spring.

Graham would have been in a position to get a lot of playing time with the Ohio State Buckeyes this season. Instead, he is playing for the Fighting Irish. Now, he is slated to be one of the three starting receivers for the Fighting Irish this year.

Former Ohio State receiver Mylan Graham slated to start at Notre Dame

As Patrick Murphy of Bucknuts notes, Graham has a really good shot to become a starter in South Bend.

"In his first offseason in South Bend, Graham showed his new teammates and coaches why he was a top-15 receiver prospect coming out of high school, standing out from the first practice. After spring, it appears Jordan Faison will be Fighting Irish quarterback CJ Carr's top target. However, Graham is coming off an impressive first spring practice with Notre Dame and is in line to start at receiver for the Irish in 2026 alongside Faison and Jaden Greathouse," Murphy wrote.

Fans should recognize Greathouse, as he was the best weapon the Fighting Irish had in the National Championship Game against the Buckeyes in 2024. He caught six passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns in that game. He was hurt for most of last season, though.

Graham will be in the mix to get a lot of snaps this season, even if he ends up not starting. He had a shot to do that in Columbus had he stayed. Instead, he goes to a program that just isn't quite as good as what Ohio State has to offer.

Mylan Graham and Quincy Porter will look to make Ohio State regret letting them go

Quincy Porter is another former Buckeye receiver who transferred to Notre Dame in the offseason. He was hurt pretty much all of last season, dealing with a knee injury. He underwent knee surgery to fix the issue and didn't play at all this Spring. His path to playing time is much less clear.

The Buckeyes would have liked to have kept both former five-star receivers. Yet, they just reloaded at that spot. Chris Henry Jr. will come in and compete to be the second-best receiver on the roster right away. They also added a couple of receivers from the portal to help with depth.

Ohio State is going to be just fine at the receiver position. They still have Jeremiah Smith, who is the best weapon in college football. Better yet, they still have Julian Sayin throwing them the ball. Notre Dame still has some questions at that spot.
