The Ohio State football program just finished up having an incredible 2026 NFL Draft. 11 players were taken from this past year's draft. Four of the first 11 picks were taken in the first round, with Carnell Tate being the first one. Quite frankly, it was just a giant commercial for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
For the last two seasons, Caleb Downs has been the best player on the defense. Now, he is in the NFL. During that same time period, Jeremiah Smith has been the best offensive player. Smith enters the 2027 season as perhaps the best player in the country.
While Tate was the top receiver taken in this draft, Smith for sure would have been if he were draft-eligible. He and another Buckeye will be sitting at the top of the draft boards for all of next season, and one way-too-early mock draft has two Buckeyes at the top.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jeremiah Smith and Julian Sayin are listed as the number one and number two prospects for the 2027 NFL Draft. While Smith is listed at the top of that board, it would be truly shocking if he were the top overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
A wide receiver hasn't been drafted number-one overall in 20 years. Keyshawn Johnson was the top pick by the New York Jets in the 1996 draft. The only way Smith would possibly be put in that position is if the team with the first pick next season already has a franchise quarterback.
It would make much more sense if Sayin were the top pick. He is already set up to be the franchise quarterback for someone in 2027. He has a chance to further sew that up with a big year. Both Buckeyes are likely going to be taken in the top five.
