Over the last couple of seasons, the best defensive player on the Ohio State football team has been Caleb Downs. Downs made an entire highlight tape of sensational plays with the Buckeyes in his final two seasons in college football. Simply put, the Ohio State Buckeyes don't win a national championship without him.
Downs ended up sliding to the 11th pick in the first round. It was shocking to see him fall out of the top 10, even with everything he has put on tape. The Cowboys made the decision to trade up to get him, and it was clearly the right one. He will make that defense much better right away.
Other GMs in the NFL might be regretting the decision to pass on drafting him. In fact, one anonymous GM believes that those who decided to pass on drafting Downs is going to regret that. Downs is certainly going to do his best to make sure that's the case.
Former Ohio State safety Caleb Downs is going to make other GMs regret passing on him
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, one GM believes Downs will make everyone regret passing on him.
"Every team that passes on Caleb Downs will be making a mistake."
Downs is an excellent safety who can be moved around the field in almost any position in any defensive system. That's what he was able to do so well last year in Matt Patricia's system. Patricia brought an NFL defensive system to the Buckeyes, and Downs thrived.
Ohio State helped develop Downs to be the superstar that he is. There are ten other teams that passed on him in the draft. In Dallas, Downs has a shot to become a superstar for a franchise that has struggled to have success in the postseason.
If there's anyone who can turn around a defense, it's Downs.
