The Ohio State football program has not worried about what Michigan trolls have said about them in the Ryan Day era. Even when Day was losing to TTUN, they didn't let too many of those trolls reach into the Woody. That is especially true of Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.
Portnoy always talks about how much he hates Ohio State and how soft Ryan Day is. Last weekend, Portnoy claimed that the reason he was booted from Big Noon Kickoff on FOX was because of Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He doubled down on that take.
Dave Portnoy keeps claiming Ohio State got him fired from Big Noon
While speaking to Front Office Sports, Portnoy continues to blame Ohio State for his failure on Big Noon Kickoff. When asked why he was let go, Portnoy claimed FOX told him it was because of Ohio State.
"It’s been basically since Day One. When Fox announced the deal, Ohio State objected to it instantly, to the point that Fox executives were in Columbus and were shown a 30- to 45-minute highlight tape of me ripping Ohio State and Ryan Day—all of the stuff that people familiar with me and Barstool have probably seen with the rivalry stuff. So, very upset that I would be added to Big Noon Kickoff."
Desmond Howard is another massive Michigan troll who works for ESPN. Yet, the Buckeyes have never had any sort of issue with him. College GameDay has always been welcomed with open arms in the Shoe, and there has never been any issue with Day and Howard.
Perhaps the issue was never Day being mad at Portnoy. Perhaps the issue was the fact that Portnoy actually wasn't good at doing Big Noon. His bits were over the top, and the things he says about the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry are over the top. Maybe he just failed on his own, and he refuses to believe that.
Ohio State doesn't have an issue with Dave Portnoy despite his claims
Ohio State has always denied having an issue with Portnoy. They have never officially banned anyone from campus, nor will they unless something is egregious. Day and the rest of the Ohio State football program have bigger things to worry about. They are more focused on winning football games.
Maybe Portnoy should do other things besides helping fund Bryce Underwood's NIL money, since he looks to be the biggest bust in the history of the NIL era. TTUN has lost two straight games in the Big Ten, and Underwood has yet to develop in any sort of meaningful way.
If he put more time and effort into helping TTUN use their NIL resources properly, perhaps they would be a better team and a better overall program. Instead, the Buckeyes are clearly the better program and look to be for the foreseeable future. They look like national title contenders.
No matter how much Portnoy cries or screams or stomps his feet, the Buckeyes won't give him the time of day. He should just be focused on further building out Barstool instead of blaming the university for getting fired.
