It seems the Ohio State Buckeyes can win on the road against a good team. They showed that after taking down Iowa 31-14 in a game they ran away with in the second half. It was the best game that they have played from start to finish this season, which shows how good a team they are.
Coming into this game, there were questions about whether or not the Buckeyes were good enough to win a national championship. Playing against the best defense in the country was going to be a good test, and it's a test they passed with flying colors, despite having an offensive fatal flaw.
Ohio State can win a title without having a second receiver step up
The Buckeyes have Jeremiah Smith, and they have known that he is the best player in college football for quite a while. However, I'm not sure anyone within the program thought that Smith was this good. He has now had back-to-back weeks over 200 yards receiving.
It was thought that this Ohio State football team needed a second receiver to step up in order for them to win a national championship. After this game, I'm not sure that is true anymore. He is so good that he might just be able to carry the entire passing game himself.
Julian Sayin had a lot of confidence throwing him the ball, even throwing it to him when he was double-covered several times. He knew that Smith was good enough to catch it while surrounded, and he did. He's just such a good player that it doesn't matter what Devin McCuin or Brandon Inniss do.
McCuin did have four catches for 80 yards and a touchdown of his own. However, there is no other receiver on this roster who has had over 100 yards receiving in a single game yet. Smith is in a league of his own, and there isn't a defense in the country that can stop him.
Jeremiah Smith can carry Ohio State to a national championship
After the game, Smith mentioned that he is only worried about winning a national championship this year. He did mention that he would like to win the Heisman, but he said that winning a national title was the big goal he set for himself this season. He looks good enough to carry the team to a national title by himself.
Of course, Smith got some help from the defensive side of the ball. The Buckeyes stopped Iowa's rushing game completely, only allowing them 39 yards on 21 carries. Shutting down the running game kept the Hawkeyes from being able to control the clock, which is what they want to do.
Ohio State showed they are good enough to get through this gauntlet of a schedule that they have. Three of their next four games are against ranked teams, just as this one was. However, fans have to feel a lot better about the team's chances to win it all and get through the rest of the regular season unscathed.
