Things are pretty dang unknown for Ohio State and Ryan Day when it comes to recruiting the quarterback spot for the 2027 class. California product Brady Edmunds is on board, having committed to Ryan Day in December 2024, not long before OSU went on to win it all.
However, he's been taking a look at other programs and he recently made it clear that while he remains committed to the Buckeyes, he's also keeping his options open a bit. This swung the door open for the one and only Chip Kelly to try and flip him too, as the former Ohio State assistant made his way to Huntington Beach to meet with the 4-star QB. This is a concern for Day for multiple reasons:
Always great to see Coach Kelly! Appreciate you showing love and taking the time to come see me!🟣😼#GoCats@NUFBFamily @jerryneuheisel@DavidBraunFB pic.twitter.com/9j3egxMyao

Chip Kelly has entered the race to try and flip Ohio State QB commit Brady Edmunds
Kelly is the new offensive coordinator at Northwestern - keep in mind here too that he was Day's OC in Columbus when Edmunds originally committed to Ohio State. Kelly ended up leaving the Big Ten powerhouse after helping the program win the natty, but his time with the Las Vegas Raiders did not last long at all.
Kelly has found a new home back in the Big Ten and he's looking to make a splash with Northwestern. Could that include getting Edmunds to change his mind? NW isn't the only school in on Edmunds, as he's also been hearing from UCLA and others. Bob Chesney is clearly making Edmunds a top priority, as he wants to keep him close to home.
This is something for Day to try to prevent, but it sure doesn't help that Kelly is making a move here as well. With things uncertain with Edmunds, the Ohio State staff has been looking at other QB targets, including Nebraska commit Trae Taylor and Alabama verbal Elijah Haven.
Ohio State has reportedly been pushing hard for Taylor, but he has said he's locked in with the Cornhuskers and that he wants to play for Matt Rhule. That could change down the road, but right now things aren't looking good for Day with those efforts.
Could Ohio State end up going all-in for Taylor or Haven if Edmunds does end up changing his mind? That's also unknown, but the fact that multiple other schools are working to steal the 4-star QB away from Day is quite telling. For now, Edmunds will be Columbus-bound for his college ball, but again, it's a concern that Kelly is now working to get him to Northwestern instead.
